Parson’s Note: Prayer and Ice Buckets

Last night was Victory Church‘s annual Back-to-school Family Prayer Service. And it was awesome. One of the many things we love about Victory is that they come alongside parents to help us raise our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord (Proverbs 22:6, Ephesians 6). This service powerfully demonstrated their high level of commitment.

The first surprise we got was when we took our seats before service. “Look, mom!” Logan said, “You’re up on the screens!” Apparently the staff at Victory chose one of her tweets to include in their announcement slide show. It was a wonderful surprise, and Rebecca jokingly said that the relentless paparazzi had followed her from Los Angeles.

The youth band (which is amazing!) led us in worship, and it was powerful. The Spirit of God really moved upon the crowd. It was a moving time of corporate worship. These students are extremely gifted, and it was wonderful to see young people who are not ashamed to sing praises to the King of Kings. They went all out!

Next, Student Ministries Pastor Joshua O’Connor led a Q & A with Senior Pastor Wayne Blackburn along with several families from the church. It was a great time to hear the pastors respond to families and students and see and hear their level of dedication to the young people of Victory. As a parent, I cannot tell you how much it meant to Rebecca and me to know how much they love and care for our sons.

After the Q & A, all the students were called down to the altar with their families to be anointed with oil and prayed over. After students were prayed for, all teachers, administrators, professors, etc., were invited to come down to the altar to be prayed for. Surprisingly (in a cool way), Pastor Wayne asked the students to come down to pray for them. What a powerful time of prayer it was!

Rachel.2

Rachel Pollock

Recently returned from a trip to Nashville to record a song for the Assemblies of God’s ‘The Human Right‘ Album, Rachel Pollock was there to perform her original song “Let There Be Light.” Let me tell you… this talented young woman has a very real and special anointing! If you have not seen her performance at the AG Fine Arts Festival, you seriously need to check it out HERE.

Go now and come back. I’ll wait.

ALS.5

Pastor Wayne Blackburn takes the plunge!

The evening ended in hilarity as three pastors at Victory–including Senior Pastor Wayne Blackburn–(reluctantly) accepting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Thankfully, Victory captured it all on video. You’ll be able to watch the entire service on their website HERE when it is posted. Trust me: it is well worth your time!

Praise God, what an amazing night of praise and worship! It was a vivid reminder why Rebecca and I packed up our family and moved 700 miles to be a part of Victory Church and Southeastern University. Stepping out in obedience to God will always be rewarded, brothers and sisters… you can believe that!

In Christ’s perfect love,

Dwight
